About – Name & Mission
Our brand name…THE CAMPUS…embraces the New Testament concept of discipleship. “Campus” means “school ground.” “Disciple” means “learner.” Jesus was a rabbi or teacher, and called individuals to leave everything and to follow Him (Matt.4:18-22). Those who responded were enrolled in Christ’s school of spiritual growth and were called disciples (ie. learners). It was said of a disciple that he/she covered oneself in the “dust of the rabbi.” The disciple walked, listened, learned, and shared life so closely with the Rabbi, that ultimately one became just like the Rabbi. After following the Rabbi for several years, the disciple was to go out and make one’s own disciples (Matt.28:18-20). The call to discipleship was a call to absolute love (Luke 14:26), total surrender (Luke 14:27) and complete transformation to the likeness of Christ (2 Peter 1:3-11).
Our mission statement is rooted in our understanding of discipleship (the formation of Christ-like character in the lives of people), and our understanding that discipleship is a journey, a process. Our mission at The Campus is: to present everyone mature in Christ; by connecting to God, one another, ministry and the world.
“Connecting to God.” During our weekend worship services, people are able to begin or deepen their relationship with Christ. Through engaging worship and a biblical message, people are placed in an environment where a growing and intimate relationship with God is the primary concern.
“Connecting to One Another.” This component of relational connection and interdependence is best accomplished through our Home Groups. People may go to a weekly service faithfully, but if they never connect to a small group, they are not really known and their spiritual growth may stagnate.
“Connecting to Ministry.” At The Campus, we have a number of ministry teams to provide service opportunities for people. Our Home Groups are also intentionally engaged in service; where, as a group, they are able to add value to our wider community. We encourage everyone to join a Home Group and as the Holy Spirit leads, a team that is engaged in a ministry they are passionate about; to experience God working through them as they serve others in tangible ways.
“Connecting to the World.” Our passionate involvement in global and local missions presents many opportunities: supporting and praying for our church-sponsored missionaries, participating in various short-term mission trips, and partnering in service with ministries in our immediate community. In addition to this, connecting to the world is emphasized as a relational lifestyle at The Campus. It may be sharing about Christ with a friend, bringing a meal to a neighbour in need, or inviting a colleague to church. God calls all of us to intentionally and compassionately reach out to people who do not know Him.
Thank you for joining us at The Campus, and on this exciting journey of seeing hearts and changed transformed!
