About
A community of Christ-followers learning to love and serve God and people. Our name, The Campus, embraces the New Testament concept of discipleship…following Jesus and learning from him. ‘Campus’ means ‘school ground’ and ‘disciple’ means ‘learner.’ Jesus was a rabbi or teacher, and called individuals to leave everything and to follow Him (Matt.4:18-22). Those who responded were enrolled in Christ’s school of spiritual growth and were called disciples (ie. learners). It was said of a disciple that he/she covered oneself in the “dust of the rabbi.” The disciple walked with, listened to, learned from, and shared life so closely with the Rabbi, that ultimately one became just like the Rabbi. After following their Teacher for several years, the disciple was to go out and make one’s own disciples (Matt.28:18-20). The call to discipleship was and is a call to absolute love (Luke 14:27) and to complete transformation to the likeness of Christ, our Servant Lord (Philippians 2:5-11). At The Campus, we have responded to Jesus’ call to discipleship…the call to a Christ-centered life shaped by humility, servanthood and radical obedience; and we affirm that this call is to be lived out in community. We believe God exists, and that He is a being of indescribable love and competence. We believe God created this world, that it belongs to Him and that we are called to cherish and care for it. We believe all human beings have dignity and are of great worth because they are created by God in His own image and are valued by God beyond our ability to measure. We believe the world is full of brokennes and suffering because human beings have fallen and sinned. We believe God does not intend for sin and suffering to get the last word. We believe God has revealed the truth about Himself in the Scriptures, which are our authoritative guide in faith and action. We believe God has expressed Himself uniquely in His Son Jesus, who lived, taught, died, and rose again for our redemption. He is our Saviour, Lord and Friend. We believe the Spirit of God is now available so we can live intimate, life-giving closeness with God. We believe the Church is a redemptive community of those who have chosen to follow Jesus and who share the light and love of Christ with compassion and courage. We live in hope because one day Jesus will return, love and justice will prevail, and God will set the world right.
We Believe: The Bible is the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of humanity, and the Divine and final authority for what we believe and how we live. In one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is completely God and completely human, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross as the sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where He is head of the Church and intercedes for believers. He will come again personally, bodily and visibly to judge humanity and to establish an eternal Kingdom of righteousness. That the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and during this age to convict humanity of sin, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, seal the believer’s salvation, and guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service. That humankind was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore under the penalty of eternal death and spiritual separation from God, and subject to the power of the devil. That salvation comes through personal acceptance of Christ as Saviour. That salvation is accomplished solely by the blood of Jesus Christ, and is not the result of any good in us or done by us, but is the result of the grace (gift) of God through repentance of sin and faith in Christ Jesus alone. That the true believer is secure in Christ forever and is being progressively transformed into the likeness of Christ. That the true Church is composed of all genuine believers in Jesus Christ who are united together in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The local church is the visible expression of this body. Water baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the believer in Christ during the present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation. That Satan exists as an evil personality, the originator of sin, the archenemy of God and humanity; that he was defeated by Christ on the cross, and is condemned to eternal punishment. In the reality of heaven and hell, and that at death the spirit of the believer in Christ goes to be with Christ, while the spirit of the unbeliever suffers separation from Christ and eternal conscious punishment. Someday Jesus will return from heaven to resurrect the bodies of the believers of all ages, and take up the living believers from the earth, each to share in His glory and to live and reign with Him forever. The bodies of the unbelieving dead will be resurrected to final judgement resulting in eternal punishment.
